Part of INSPIRE – WFCU Credit Union’s community engagement program – the Bee promotes literacy and language arts in a fun and engaging way and provides area youth from grades 1 to 8 the opportunity to compete for a chance to represent the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent communities at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

No matter how your school determines a spelling bee champion, all champions from enrolled schools will move forward in the WFCU Credit Union Regional Spelling Bee. This year’s Regional Spelling Bee is scheduled for Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts. The WFCU Scripps Regional Spelling Bee winner will represent our region at the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland and be awarded various prizes!

11-year-old Isaac B. from Maranatha Christian Academy in Windsor won the 2023 WFCU Credit Union Scripps Regional Spelling Bee after spelling the word conundrum correctly. At the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee, he correctly spelled the words tamarack, vendition, and Barbuda, along with identifying the meaning of bumptious and persnickety. Isaac successfully made it through to the 6th round, where he tied for 23rd place after incorrectly spelling the word tenrec. We were so proud of Isaac’s accomplishments at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where, in addition to placing 23rd, Isaac was awarded the Spirit Award for his positive attitude and participation!

“If there are two things I can take out of my spelling bee journey, they would be 1) trust in God, because He will never let you down, and 2) never give up! Bee week was a time in my life I will never forget!”
